The CommonApp Essay Prompts Have Been Released
The essay prompts for the CommonApp remain the same as last year’s. It’s time to start drafting your personal statement. Simply because a good essay requires time and thought, especially if it’s an essay that plays a big part in whether you will stand out in a pile of tens of thousands of applications.
Here’s the link to the prompts: https://www.commonapp.org/blog/2022-2023-common-app-essay-prompts
I have written a few posts about the personal statement, including:
i) What past students have written (https://www.acaciadmissions.com/admission-case-studies-success-stories/what-students-admitted-to-top-schools-wrote-in-their-personal-statements)
ii) What not to say in your college essays (https://www.acaciadmissions.com/admission-case-studies-success-stories/what-not-to-write-in-your-college-essays)
iii) Why you should not be misled by viral essays (https://www.acaciadmissions.com/admission-case-studies-success-stories/bm7dh4gzpxi288th0tyntkw47fnpxt)
iv) Reminders on not writing too much (https://www.acaciadmissions.com/admission-case-studies-success-stories/college-essays-less-is-more)
For today, I’d like to share a tip for students to get started with brainstorming for their personal statements:
Think: (1) What is the MESSAGE ABOUT ME that this essay is conveying? What is it about me that will make colleges think I'll be a good addition to their student population? (2) What is/are your best story/stories that will show the WHO YOU ARE that you want colleges to remember you by at the admissions consideration.
Good luck!
